Characters and Functions of a Poster

Poster are very important in today's society, we see them all the time. A poster is meant to present a message through text and visuals. Poster are often mass produced to meet the largest audience. They are always changing because the people making the are constantly learning new things. Posters are meant to grab your attention and either inform you about a topic or to try to get you to buy something. Posters are one of the best forms of communication.

Laws of Poster Design

General demands of poster-designing: Posters had to grab the attention of a person and speak to their emotions. You want someone to take be able to look at your poster and become interested in whatever your poster is about.
.
Lettering in poster-designing: Lettering in posters needs to be readable from a distance and also needs to be a contrasting color, so its easy to spot against the rest of the poster.  The text must also be short and to the point, you don't want it to be like an essay. Lastly the font is very important, the font not only has to go with the message, but it also has to be visually appealing to who ever is reading it.

Shapes in poster-designing: The shapes used on a poster should be easy to to see from a distance and use good appealing colors. You want the shapes to have a compact effect. The shape is also responsible for drawing attention to the poster. Some examples of composition that designers use are, diagonal composition and rythmitized form. Lastly as always the shapes need to relate to the message of the poster.
Color in poster-designing: Color in my opinion is the most important part of a poster. If you use colors that don't really go well together, then all the information and shapes you put on the poster would have been for nothing. Color theory plays a big part in which colors are used on a poster. Lastly color can be good for placing importance on a specific part of the poster.

Important parts of a poster

Color is a very important to making a good poster. If you use two colors that don't go well together it will make the poster appear unworthy of reading. While if you use a good color scheme, you can get people to buy the product you're trying to sell or inform them of an upcoming election. Another important thing needed to make a good poster is the wording used to convey your message. If you have gotten to the point where someone was interested enough in reading your poster, you don't want to have to much information, to much information could lead to them losing interest in the poster itself. You really want to get your message across in as few words as possible. The last thing I find to be very important to making a good poster is that you don't want to have to many graphics. graphics in large quantities can be overwhelming to whoever is looking at your poster, What you really want is a few well thought out shapes that convey whatever your message is.

Wrap Up

My favorite thing I learned about while reading was that you don't want to have to much information on your poster because writing an essay and trying to fit it on a poster is not going to be appealing to anyone who looks at it. I found this reading to be interesting, there's a lot of things that go into making a poster, things that without looking up, you would never even give a second thought to. Lastly it was cool to learn about the different parts of a poster, that in the end come together and make an awesome looking poster.
